GX Hockey - Note to Members

The arrival of spring marks the end of the Hockey season and I am delighted to report that the men’s first team won promotion for the second season in a row, with Luke and Stevie being the leagues’ top scorers.  The men’s 2s also had a successful season and, with a bit of luck could have been pushing for promotion.  My thanks to both Andy and JJ for all their sterling work in getting the teams out each week, to all the players for their commitment and to all who volunteered as umpires, particularly John Thorne.  It is hoped that plans for summer hockey will be finalised shortly so please look out for details.

The juniors have enjoyed matches at all levels, enjoyed some successes and played with commitment and with a smile whatever.  We are grateful to all those who have either run or helped with any of the teams.

The disappointment for the season was that we were unable to put out ladies teams.

We are looking to make some changes for the juniors next season and a further note will follow shortly once arrangements have been agreed with the school and the coaches.  As previously advised, Fergus and Debbie are stepping down this season.  There are to be matches on Sunday 14th April in recognition of all they have done for the Club but I should like to add my thanks.  It is difficult to underplay the extent of the contribution they have both made.

I would like to draw all your attention to a planned meeting at the end of this month to look at the way forward for the Club.  This is proposed to be on Monday 29th April, formal notice will follow but I would encourage as many of you to attend as possible in order that you can have your say on how you would like to see the Club develop.

We do not now use the Sports Clubs facilities at Dukes Wood but we remain one of the three core members and I attach a notice from the Sports Club regarding increasing use of the Sports Club facilities.

It only remains for me to wish you all a restful summer.  I hope to see as many of you as possible at the AGM on 29th April or, if not, on or before the start of next season.
